Local people are actively participating in the donation campaign being run to help the victims of the ongoing conflict in Iran.
Meanwhile, in Leh district of Ladakh, an ordinary egg was auctioned for Rs 25,000, but it was not just a buy-and-buy, it became a symbol of sympathy and support for the people battling the war. During the donation campaign, people donated not only cash but also jewellery, precious metals and everyday items.

Who bought an egg worth Rs 25,000?
During this special donation campaign organized in Leh, an egg auction caught everyone’s attention. An egg which is usually available for Rs 10 was bought for Rs 25,000, which is an indication of how people are coming forward to help openly. Expressing the sentiment behind this auction, local resident Shabbir Hussain said, “Everyone knows that the price of an egg is Rs 10. I did not give Rs 25,000 because I said I had money. This gives us a message about how much atrocities are being committed on children in Iran. So I gave Rs 25,000 for them. We are ready to give up our lives. We live for this community. We have to follow every order of our leader. Till now our leader has not given us any order.”

What did people donate?
People from every section participated in this campaign going on in Ladakh. People donated cash, gold, silver and other valuables. This was not just economic cooperation, but also a symbol of emotional connection. An emotional moment was seen when a little girl broke her piggy bank and donated it. Many children gave a message of solidarity by donating even their bicycles.
Where are people donating?
Not only in Ladakh, but similar scenes were seen in other parts of Jammu and Kashmir also. Hundreds of people of Shia community gathered at an Imambara in Chanderkot area of Ramban district and donated relief material wholeheartedly. Here people donated everything from household utensils to gold and silver jewellery. Women even gave away their bangles and earrings, while one man donated his sheep, which shows the depth of this campaign.
What happened to the Iranian Embassy?
The Iranian Embassy in India expressed gratitude for the cooperation extended by Indians on 22 March. Describing it as a symbol of “kindness” and “humanity”, he said that this help will play an important role in rebuilding the lives of people affected by the conflict.
