A driver has been criminally detained after his Lexus crashed into multiple vehicles waiting at a red light in Hanoi, leaving two people injured.

Hanoi Police said on March 27 that the male driver is under investigation for alleged violations of road traffic regulations.

Authorities determined that neither the Lexus driver nor the other motorists involved were under the influence of alcohol or stimulants at the time of the crash. The incident was attributed to a failure to observe traffic conditions and reckless driving.

According to initial reports, the Lexus was traveling along Trung Kinh Street, at the intersection with Mac Thai To, at around 11:30 p.m. on March 25 when it rear-ended a car stopped at a red light, pushing it forward by about 10 meters.

The vehicle then continued through the intersection, veering into the opposite lane and colliding with three additional cars and a motorbike. It subsequently overturned and came to a stop in the middle of the road.

Two people were injured, including a motorbike taxi driver who sustained multiple fractures and was taken to hospital.

At the scene, the Lexus was found overturned in the middle lane with airbags deployed and significant front-end damage. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and was rescued by bystanders.

Other vehicles involved sustained damage to both front and rear sections, while debris was scattered across an area of about 300 square meters.
