Government will make every effort to give full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir: LG Manoj Sinha

Srinagar. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that the huge turnout in the assembly elections has shown the unwavering faith of the people in the democratic process. He said that the aspiration to regain statehood is strong among the people. Addressing the first assembly of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, he said that we have gathered here after the successful completion of elections after a decade.

Government will create favorable environment for development

Sinha said the huge turnout was very encouraging, especially in areas which traditionally did not participate fully due to separatist sentiments. LG said that the aspiration to get back the statehood in Jammu and Kashmir is strong. He said that PM Modi has reiterated his commitment to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible. He said that my government will make efforts to restore statehood and create a conducive environment for development.

He said the Council of Ministers recently passed a unanimous resolution calling for restoration of statehood. It reflects collective will and everyone will have to work together as a team to achieve it. Sinha said that people have a lot of expectations from the government and everyone should give full support to the government to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people.

He said that the government is fully committed to fulfilling its promises for political empowerment of the people. He said that my government is committed to providing 200 units of electricity per family. Its methods are being worked on. We are exploiting hydropower resources and by the year 2026, Jammu and Kashmir will become self-sufficient in electricity.

Uproar in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on the first day of session

There was uproar on the very first day of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Session. PDP MLA Waheed Para presented a resolution against the removal of Article 370 and restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. An uproar broke out in the Assembly after the BJP demanded removal of the comment and rejection of the resolution. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that the proposal was presented only for the cameras and has no real significance.
