New Delhi: Malviya Nagar area of ​​the national capital Delhi was shaken by a tragic accident on Wednesday morning. A massive fire suddenly broke out in the building of Lemon Green restaurant located in Hauz Rani area here. So far 21 people have died in this fire. Rescue operations are still going on amid the debris and smoke as some more people are feared buried under the debris.

The ‘building of death’ was built by ignoring the rules

This entire complex was being run under the ‘Bed and Breakfast’ scheme. According to official sources, the Delhi government had given approval to run only 6 rooms at this place. On the contrary, the owner had prepared 25 rooms in the building by ignoring the rules. Even in the basement, business activities and rooms were being conducted, which has exposed the security arrangements.

People jumped from the roof to save their lives

According to eyewitnesses, as soon as flames started rising from the basement at around 8:30 in the morning, there was screams in the entire building. The poisonous smoke spread so fast that people did not get a chance to recover. Due to the roads being blocked all around, people ran towards the rooftops to save their lives, while some jumped down from the windows in frustration.

Safe rescue of 37 people, 11 admitted to hospital

As soon as the news of the accident was received, local police, fire brigade and disaster management (DDMA) teams rushed for relief work. 10 fire tenders were deployed to extinguish the fire. The rescue team has shown wisdom and taken out 37 people alive so far. According to Delhi Police, 11 burnt people have been immediately admitted to nearby hospitals, where a team of doctors is looking after them.

SDM ordered investigation

SDM Jitendra Kumar, who reached the spot, said that rescue teams were alerted as soon as information about the accident was received. According to initial investigation, there was a restaurant on the ground floor of the building and the fire started spreading from the basement. At present, the real cause of the accident has not been revealed, but forensic experts are investigating keeping in mind short circuit and other technical aspects. The administration has ordered a high-level investigation into this serious negligence.
