In the speech, Trump took the name of star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and described him as “great” in front of Messi. The rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo has been going on for a long time. During this time, Messi kept listening to Trump while smiling.
During the event, the Inter Miami team presented its jersey to Trump, while Messi gave him a bejeweled pink football.
US President Donald Trump said at the ceremony, “Today I have the great pleasure of hosting the 2025 MLS Cup champions, Inter Miami. It is my privilege to be able to say what no other American president has ever been able to do. Welcome to the White House, Lionel Messi.”
In his speech, Trump also compared Messi with great footballer Pele. He said, “I shouldn’t say this because I am old now, but I have seen Pele play. Maybe you are even better than Pele. Pele was a great player.”
After this, Trump asked other Inter Miami players and people present there who was better, Messi or Pele. People shouted ‘Messi!’ Yelled. At this, Trump laughed and said, “I agree too, Messi.”
Lionel Messi did not give any speech in this program. Donald Trump also thanked Messi for choosing Miami as his club. “You could have gone anywhere in the world, played on any team, but you chose Miami. I want to thank you for that,” he said.
