Bijpur / Sonbhadra –
There is a clear instruction from the government that all liquor shops should be closed by 10 pm, but in one area of the city the rules are being openly flouted. It is alleged that a liquor shop operator is secretly selling liquor by opening half the shutters of the shop even after 10 pm. Local people say that along with selling liquor late at night, customers are being charged much more money than the prescribed price. Taking advantage of the compulsion, the shop operator is selling liquor at arbitrary prices.
Nearby residents say that due to this illegal activity, there is crowd in the area till late night, which disturbs the peace and is also affecting the law and order. Local people have demanded from the administration and excise department that the matter should be immediately investigated and strict action should be taken against the guilty shop operator, so that the rules can be followed and such arbitrariness can be stopped.
A case of open disregard for excise rules has come to light in the city, where liquor shops continued to operate without fear even after the scheduled time of 10 pm. Ignoring the rules, the sale continued till late night, which is not only raising questions on law and order, but has also raised serious doubts on departmental monitoring. When the responsible officials of the Excise Department were contacted on this serious issue and clarification was sought, they neither gave any satisfactory answer nor fulfilled their responsibility – but rather shied away by disconnecting the phone. This attitude shows that there is a game of collusion or negligence going on somewhere.
There is deep anger among the local citizens regarding this incident. People say that due to sale of liquor late at night, anti-social activities are increasing in the area, due to which the safety of the general public can be in danger. Now the question is whether the administration will take strict action on this blatant violation, or will the responsible officials just turn a blind eye? The public is demanding immediate action from the administration and strict action against the culprits.
