Liu’s evening gown for the event held in Shanghai, China, on Monday, which echoed the corset style, was designed by Louis Vuitton.
Corsets, historically undergarments with metal boning used to shape the waist and favored by noblewomen in Renaissance Europe, have evolved into various styles including the corset dress. This design maintains a form-fitting silhouette and employs mesh fabric along with metal boning to define the waist, not easily worn by everyone.

The actress described her outfit choice as “both soft and cool.” The lower portion of her dress is adorned with sequins on transparent fabric.
Following the red carpet, Liu complemented her ensemble with a jacket for the party.
Liu, 37, was born in China and was formerly a Chinese citizen, as noted by Malaysian outlet Hype. She moved to the U.S. at age 10 after her parents divorced and subsequently acquired American citizenship.
She returned to China to start her entertainment career and rose to prominence with her role in the 2003 TV series “The Story of a Noble Family.” Transitioning to films in 2008, she has built a substantial career in both Chinese and Hollywood cinemas.
In 2009, Liu was acknowledged as one of the New Four Dan actresses, a title given to the successors of the four top-grossing actresses in China.
