Lizzo ‘offended’ by past media scrutiny of women’s bodies

American pop star Lizzo has reflected on the harsh way women’s bodies were discussed in the late ’90s and early 2000s.

She said she was “deeply offended” by the era’s media coverage and the way they depicted women on screen.

Body positivity and raising voice against objectification of women on screen has been a long journey that is still a work in progress.

Speaking on Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky, Lizzo criticised past headlines targeting women, including the scrutiny faced by Jessica Simpson over her “mom jeans.”

The 37-year-old said “I’ll say first, the way that we talk about bodies in the media and the standard of what a thin body or a larger body is has changed so dramatically.”

Jessica’s famous mom jeans created headlines in 2009 which Lizzo said “ruined the stage for me.”

The Juice singer added that today’s youngsters ae unaware of the jarsh reality of women being objectified and depicted harshly in media in the past.

Lizzo claimed that she only got successful because she was “undeniably talented”.
