Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said – there is a need to make the legislature more effective towards the public.

Lucknow, 20 January. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday stressed on setting high standards of quality in legislative bodies at the 86th All India Presiding Officers Conference (AIPOC) held here.

Use of technology for transparent, efficient and citizen-centric legislative processes, improving efficiency by enhancing the capacity of legislators, strengthening democracy and accountability of legislatures towards the public were discussed on the second day of the conference held at Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Bhavan. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was present in these sessions. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh moderated the discussion.

Birla praised UP Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana

Om Birla praised Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana and said that Mahana is trying to adopt the good practices of other assemblies of the country in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Besides, his initiative to make constructive use of the education and experience of the MLAs is also praiseworthy.

Birla said that excellence, innovation and use of technology should be promoted in all state assemblies. This will increase healthy competition. He referred to the AIPOC conference held in Dehradun in 2019 and said that since then work has been ongoing to improve legislative processes. A committee has been formed to look at harmonizing the procedures of legislative bodies.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Emphasis on the role of AI

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh stressed the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He said that AI can increase the efficiency of legislatures, but it is important to use it properly and reliably. He called for better coordination between Parliament and State Legislatures, so that knowledge and experience can be shared.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also attend the closing ceremony on the last day of AIPOC and address the conference. This conference focuses on making legislative institutions more effective, transparent and people-centric.
