Longest winning streak in Premier League: How far is Aston Villa from all-time record?
Aston Villa overcame an early deficit and secured a 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday in the Premier League, taking its winning streak to eight games.
This is the club’s longest winning run in the English top flight since 1910, when it registered nine straight wins between October and December. If Unai Emery’s side beats table-topper Arsenal on Tuesday, it will match that record.
Across all competitions, Villa has won 11 games on the bounce, equalling its runs in 1897 and 1914.
However, Aston Villa is still some distance away from the all-time record in the Premier League. Manchester City (2017/18) and Liverpool (2019/20) have the longest streaks at 18 games.
Liverpool also went on a 17-game winning run across the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons. Overall, there have been 27 instances of teams having winning runs of more than eight matches in the Premier League.
