Lost Ladies’ out of Oscar race, Karan Rao emotional
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday announced the names of 15 films shortlisted for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2025 Oscars.
In the nominations where globally loved films like ‘Emilia Perez’ and ‘From Ground Zero’ got nominations, India’s official entry ‘Missing Ladies’ failed to make it and the Kiran Rao-directed film. Out of the running for the Oscars.
Karan Rao’s Emotional Story:
Karan Rao made his comeback as a director with the comedy-drama film ‘Lapata Ladies’. Although the film was released last year, it is still receiving immense love and appreciation from fans and critics alike.
Due to which the film was selected as India’s official entry in the Best International Feature Film category for the 97th Academy Awards, however, Karan Rao became emotional when the film failed to make the shortlist for the Academy Awards.
On December 18, the film’s official Instagram handle shared a detailed note, informing fans that the film was not nominated for the Academy Awards this year.
Late in the announcement, Karan re-shared the post on his Instagram handle along with an emotional emoji, a red heart, and a handshake emoji.
An emotional note shared by the official social media handle of ‘Lapata Ladies’ expressed disappointment that the film was not nominated for the Academy Awards. However, the team is extremely grateful for the support and belief they received during this amazing journey.
A part of the note read, “We are grateful to the Academy members and the FFI Jury for considering our film.” It is an honor in itself to be a part of this prestigious process with the best films from around the world. Heartfelt thanks to the viewers around the world who have shown love and support for our film.
In closing, the team congratulated all 15 shortlisted films and wished them success in the next stages of the awards.
It may be recalled that Kiran Rao’s Missing Ladies received critical acclaim during the 1990s for its portrayal of two young brides who transform into rural India.
The cast included newcomers Spurish Srivastava, Pratibha Raanta, and Nitinshi Goyal along with veteran actors Ravi Kishan and Chhaya Kadam.
