What is Dimethyl Ether (DME)

Amidst the crisis of LPG gas cylinder, scientists of Pune, while searching for an alternative to LPG, have prepared a cheap and indigenous option. Scientists have claimed to have created Dimethyl Ether (DME) gas. CSIR-NCL of Pune says that they have converted dimethyl ether into LPG. Pune scientists say that DME (Dimethyl Ether) can become an alternative to LPG, because it burns in the same way. The best thing is that its use causes less pollution. This gas is also very similar to LPG.

Success after 20 years

According to Pune NCL, work on DME was going on for the last 20 years. Scientists of CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory have started work on increasing DME production on a large scale. The laboratory has set up a pilot plant for DME. It is now planning to expand this facility to increase production in the coming times.

DME is made artificially from methanol

According to scientists, DME is made artificially from methanol. This includes biomass and coal, even captured carbon dioxide. DME and LPG have many properties in common. In the future, by using DME, there will be no need for any change in the stove or cylinder of the house. Scientists claim that compared to LPG, DME gas causes much less pollution when burnt.
