LPG Scam Fake Call Alert: Oil companies have asked customers to use only official apps to book gas cylinders or update information. These include apps like IndianOil ONE, HP Pay and Hello BPCL.
Be cautious of LPG booking scam
LPG Delivery Fraud Warning Issued: Amid the shortage of LPG in the country, a rise in cyber scams has also been seen. Every day, thugs are adopting new methods and making people their victims. These days, once again scams are taking place in the market in the name of LPG delivery. To avoid frauds, oil companies have appealed to the customers to be careful. Cyber thugs, posing as gas delivery agents, are asking for OTP and DAC from people, after which they directly attack the bank accounts. Keeping in mind the safety of customers, well-known oil companies of the country have warned to stay safe from cyber fraud through social media.
How is fraud happening?
- Oil companies said that fraudsters send fake SMS and WhatsApp messages to people, which look exactly like gas delivery notifications.
- After this they ask for OTP or DAC number from people.
- Many times scammers call pretending to be employees of a gas agency and say that your gas connection may be closed.
- Then they ask for OTP on the pretext of KYC update or Aadhaar linking.
What did oil company HPCL say?
- Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited has said that the genuine gas delivery message comes only with the name ‘VM-HPGASC-S’ and contains a 4-digit OTP.
- This OTP is used only at the time of cylinder delivery.
- The company clearly said that HP Gas employees never ask for OTP through phone, WhatsApp or any link.
Indian Oil and BPCL advice
Indian Oil Corporation has advised customers to tell their 6 digit DAC number only when Indane’s delivery boy reaches your home with the cylinder. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited also said that OTP should be shared only at the time of delivery of the gas cylinder.
Use official app for booking
Oil companies have asked customers to use only official apps to book gas cylinders or update information. These include apps like IndianOil ONE, HP Pay and Hello BPCL. If WhatsApp or message comes from an unknown number, do not trust it and do not share any information.

What to do if fraud occurs?
- If you have shared the OTP by mistake or have been cheated, immediately call the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930.
- If you complain in time, your chances of getting your money back are higher.
