LPG Price Hike: Felt a huge shock as soon as I woke up this morning! Domestic gas cylinder becomes costlier by ₹29
Inflation has once again hit the pockets of the housewives and common man of the country. The kitchen budget has been completely ruined because the prices of domestic LPG gas cylinders have been increased drastically. Government oil companies have implemented new prices from today itself. Due to continuously rising prices in the global energy market, domestic fuel companies were facing a lot of problems, due to which this is the second major increase in the last three months.
According to information received from industry sources, the price of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in the country’s capital Delhi has increased from Rs 913 to Rs 942 from today (June 7). That means a direct increase of Rs 29 per cylinder has been made.
Prices increased for the second time in three months
Let us tell you that due to the ongoing tension and conflict in West Asia, energy supply at the global level was greatly affected. Fuel prices had started skyrocketing in the international market, after which the government had increased the price of LPG cylinder by a huge Rs 60 on March 7. After that shock, this is the second time that this burden of inflation has been imposed on the general public. If sources are to be believed, before this new change, government oil marketing companies (OMCs) were incurring a huge loss of about Rs 703 on every LPG cylinder sold.
Prices of commercial cylinders were also increased
With the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel in the country, there were speculations for a long time that domestic LPG cylinders may also become expensive. Due to the crisis between Iran, Israel and America that started on February 28, there were many problems in the supply of crude oil and gas, but despite this the government did not increase the prices of domestic cylinders.
However, earlier the government had given a shock to the consumers of commercial LPG cylinders. On May 1, the price of commercial cylinder was increased by Rs 993 and the price of small five kg cylinder was increased by Rs 261. After this, again on June 1, the price of commercial cylinder was increased by Rs 42.
Government claims: No problem in supply
Even though the prices of gas cylinders have increased, the government has assured the general public about the shortage of LPG. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has issued an official statement saying that the supply of LPG gas cylinders in the country remains completely normal. Despite the international crisis, there has been no situation of running out of gas or having no stock at any retail gas agency. Along with this, the Ministry made it clear that strict action is being taken continuously across the country to completely stop the hoarding of LPG gas cylinders and its black marketing.
Adequate reserves of crude oil exist
The government has also said that despite the ongoing crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, all necessary steps are being taken to ensure uninterrupted availability of petroleum products and LPG across the country. It is a matter of relief that all the refineries of the country are currently working at their high capacity and they have adequate reserves of crude oil. To meet the demand, local LPG production in these refineries has also been significantly increased.
