According to an official notice issued by the state-level organization of IT hostel and PG owners, the new rent rates will come into effect from Tuesday, May 5, 2026, news agency IANS reports. This increase reflects rising operating expenses, especially food preparation, which has become increasingly expensive in the past few months.

What is the price of LPG?

This latest development has come to light at a time when on Friday the price of commercial LPG was increased by Rs 993 per 19 kg cylinder, the biggest increase till date. This is the third consecutive monthly increase due to increases in global energy prices linked to the Middle East conflict. A 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder – used by institutions like hotels and restaurants – is now fetching a record Rs 3,071.5 in Delhi, whereas earlier it was priced at Rs 2,078.50.
