LPG rules will change from tomorrow, only one gas connection will be available per house

Knews Desk- Many big rules are going to be implemented for LPG consumers from June 1, which may affect millions of homes. The government and oil marketing companies have made these changes with the aim of making the gas distribution system more transparent and preventing black marketing.

The biggest change is that now the houses which have Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection will not be able to book LPG cylinders. The government has implemented the “one household, one gas connection” rule, which prohibits having both PNG and LPG facilities simultaneously at the same address. Oil companies have linked their digital databases, so that such connections can be easily identified.

According to the new rules, if an active PNG connection is found in a household, LPG refill booking may be automatically blocked. If the rules are violated, the gas connection can be suspended or even cancelled. However, for the convenience of consumers, the government has also started a special system. Customers who surrender their LPG connections will be given “transfer vouchers”. In future, if they shift to an area where PNG is not available, then with the help of this voucher they will be able to easily get the new LPG connection restarted.

Apart from this, the time limit for cylinder booking has also been fixed. Now to book a new cylinder in urban areas, a gap of at least 25 days will have to be kept and in rural areas, 45 days will have to be kept. However, the facility of 12 subsidized cylinders annually will continue as before. The government says that these steps will curb commercial use and black marketing of domestic gas and will make the gas distribution system more transparent.
