LPG ship ‘Jag Vikram’ crosses Hormuz and moves towards India, relief to energy supply
Iran crisis: Relief news has emerged for India. India’s LPG ship ‘Jag Vikram’ has safely transited the Strait of Hormuz and is now heading towards its destination. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the ship is coming to India with 24 sailors carrying about 20,400 metric tonnes of LPG and is expected to reach Mumbai by April 15, 2026. According to ship tracking data, it crossed this sensitive sea route between Friday night and Saturday morning.
Many Indian ships are still stranded in Hormuz
The ministry said that ‘Jag Vikram’ is a ship of Great Eastern Shipping Company of Mumbai, which has a total capacity of more than 26,000 tonnes. It is a medium-sized gas carrier and has become the ninth Indian ship to sail from the Persian Gulf since the beginning of March. However, around 15 Indian flagged ships are still present in the area, waiting for safe passage. Earlier, 8 ships in the western direction and 2 ships in the eastern direction had already passed safely.
Iran crisis: Foreign ships also stranded, eyes on India
Not only Indian, but many foreign flag ships are also currently stranded in the Persian Gulf, which are bringing goods for India. According to marine traffic data, there are still hundreds of vessels in the area, including 426 tankers, 34 LPG carriers and 19 LNG vessels. However, it is a matter of relief that all the ports of India are functioning normally and there is no congestion or blockage of any kind. The government is continuously monitoring the situation.
Why is the Strait of Hormuz important?
Iran crisis: The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy routes, from where large quantities of oil and gas are supplied. India imports a major part of its requirement, about 88% crude oil, 50% natural gas and 60% LPG. Most of these supplies come from Gulf countries and pass through this route. This route was affected due to recent West Asia tensions, but now there is a conditional ceasefire between America and Iran. Of After this the situation seems to be gradually becoming normal.
