LSG to Retain Pooran, Mayank and Bishnoi of IPL 2025

With KL Rahul unlikely to be retained by the LSG ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, it is reported that Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi are in LSG’s retained players list for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni are set to be retained by Luckow. Despite KL Rahul and the franchise being unwilling to continue, and unlikely to be retained barring a last-minute change of mind of both parties, LSG will have one RTM card of the auction.

With the exact amount for the players in the retention slab not yet known, the retention slab put in place by IPL, INR 51 crore will be deducted from the LSG’s total team purse value.

In case the aggregate sum paid to the five exceeds INR 51 crore, then the higher number will be deducted from the INR 120 crore purse each franchise has been to build their squad for IPL 2025.

It is understood that Pooran will be the top retention followed by Mayank Yadav and Bishnoi. Pooran was named as the Interim captain in the first half of the after Rahul sideline due to a niggle.

Considered one of the power hitters, Pooran was bought by LSG ahead of the IPL 2023 season for INR 16 crore.

Pooran’s price tag has continued to soar since his maiden IPL season in 2017 when Mumbai Indians bought him for INR 30 lakhs. Two years later, Punjab Kings bought him for INR 4.2 crore. At the 2022 mega auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad paid INR 10.75 crore before being released after the 2023 season.

Mayank Yadav, the young pace sensation after bowling 150 plus Kph deliveries in the first two matches during the IPL 2024 season, has been sidelined to play just four matches, the national selectors quickly added him to the list of quick-handed fast bowling contracts.

Bought by LSG for INR 20 lakhs in the 2024 auction, Mayank has only played seven matches, all T20s, four in the IPL and three in the T20I series against Bangladesh recently.

Mayank is currently at the BCCI’s newly opened Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, Ravi Bishnoi joined LSG ahead of the mega auction before IPL 2022 for INR 4 crore, as he was then an uncapped player.

In 2022, LSG made the playoffs where Bishnoi picked 13 wickets at 8.44. A year later Bishnoi was picked up 13 wickets at 8.44.

Currently, Bishnoi is in the 13th place of the leading wicket-takers with 16 wickets at 7.74 and played a role in LSG reaching the playoffs in 2023 season. But he picked up only 10 wickets in 14 matches at 8.77.

Badoni and Mohsin, the uncapped players who were bought for INR 20 lakhs each in the 2022 auction, have been integral to LSG’s success. The best season for Badoni came from the 2023 season when he made 238 runs at a strike rate of 138 in 13 innings.

Mohsin, the left-arm bowler from Uttar Pradesh had a maiden IPL season in 2022. He picked 14 wickets in just nine matches which made him one of the potential candidates for the T20 World Cup later that year. He picked 10 wickets in 10 matches during the 2024 season.

Though this year’s auction was planned to be hosted outside India, fans can still enjoy the IPL 2025 auction live streaming from their home.

With BCCI announcing October 31 as the deadline for franchises to announce their retained players list, it will be interesting which players will be coming into the auction pool.
