Lucknow : To establish and promote the Artificial Intelligence (AI) ecosystem, the Uttar Pradesh government is working to make Lucknow the first AI city in the country. It is worth noting that this initiative has received official approval.
Nitin Agarwal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Department of Excise and Prohibition, while addressing the delegates at the AI Vision Conclave, had announced that we have identified the land where the infrastructure and resources are needed to strengthen the AI ecosystem. Support facilities will be developed. To attract investment in the state, it is very important to advance the IT sector. Because we currently lack comprehensive knowledge about AI, additional conclaves are necessary to facilitate discussion between government and industry on the use of AI and its potential to improve our efficiency and effectiveness.
AI enabled technology has been used in this year's Mahakumbh.
In this year's Mahakumbh, the state government has implemented an AI-enabled sophisticated messaging system in the hospital ICU built in the mela area. The system will translate 22 regional and 19 international languages to assist doctors and nursing staff treating patients from non-Hindi speaking areas.
Let us also tell you that to further promote AI, the Government of India has recently approved Rs 10,000 crore for the India AI Mission programme. Nearly 240 generative AI startups emerged in India in the first quarter of 2024 and currently ranks sixth globally.
Raju Vegesna, Chairman and MD, Sify Technologies, said, “We must create an AI hub in India, otherwise we will lag behind. The Uttar Pradesh government’s initiative to create a Model AI Hub in Lucknow requires adequate manpower and funding.”

Anil Kumar Sagar, principal secretary, IT and Electronics Department, said, “Our Chief Minister has given us a task. Twenty years ago, Lucknow missed the opportunity to excel in technology, but not this time. “To create an IT city in Lucknow, we have identified several key areas to build models using government datasets and policies on AI and cyber security.”
