Lucknow Kanpur Expressway: There is news of great relief for those traveling between Lucknow and Kanpur. Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway will be completely ready and opened to the general public by March 2026. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has accelerated the pace of all the work related to this ambitious project. There are also preparations to make the inauguration of the expressway grand, in which the presence of the Prime Minister, Defense Minister and Chief Minister is proposed. The search for a possible venue for this has also been started.
how far has the work reached
According to NHAI, at present the work of shifting the transmission lines of the electricity department is going on at a fast pace. Scooter India (now Ashok Leyland) has completed most of the girder laying work, while the remaining work will be completed by February 2026. Officials claim that after this, all the remaining work including finishing will be completed on time.
Expressway will be of 6 lanes
This expressway will have a total of six lanes, which is expected to benefit private vehicles the most. Operation of commercial vehicles will be limited because the toll rates here will be about one and a half times higher than on normal roads. At the same time, it is a matter of relief for private vehicle drivers that by purchasing an annual pass, they will be able to travel on this entire route for just Rs 15.
Toll system will be implemented as soon as it starts
Toll system will be implemented as soon as the expressway starts. A total of five toll plazas have been built on this 63 kilometer long route. The first will be located near Miranpur Pinwat, the second at Khandedev, the third at Bani, the fourth near Amarsas village on the Unnao-Lalganj road and the fifth near Azad Nagar.
When was the project started
NHAI started this project in October 2022. Earlier it was to be completed by July 2025, but the deadline changed several times. Now the authority has assured the PMO that the expressway will be opened for traffic by March 2026. This expressway, being built at a cost of about Rs 4,700 crore, will make the distance of 62.764 kilometers between Lucknow and Kanpur very easy and fast. Besides, restaurants, hospitals and other basic facilities will also be developed here in the coming months.
