LSG IPL 2025 Mega Auction player list: Lucknow Super Giants will look to start afresh under a new skipper after parting ways with KL Rahul.
Lucknow Super Giants came into existence in 2021 as one of the two new teams along with Gujarat Titans. LSG were bought by Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG group for Rs 7,090 crore and have Ekana Stadium in Lucknow as their home ground.
The new team had a fine start in the IPL in the first couple of seasons in IPL 2022 and 2023 when they managed to qualify for the Playoffs stage. However, cracks began to appear from the IPL 2024 season as skipper KL Rahul and owner Sanjiv Goenka had a public showdown after one of the team’s losses.
LSG finished in a disappointing 7th place in IPL 2024 with 7 wins and 7 losses. Rahul ended up with 520 runs in 14 matches this year but his strike-rate of 136.13 was a matter of concern. In IPL 2023, Rahul’s strike-rate had slipped to 113.22 before getting injured after 9 matches.
The Lucknow franchise predictably decided to retain West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran for Rs 21 crore instead of Rahul ahead of IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Apart from Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi (Rs 11 crore), Mayank Yadav (Rs 11 crore), Mohsin Khan (Rs 4 crore) and Ayush Badoni (Rs 4 crore) have been retained.
LSG will have a fairly large purse of Rs 69 crore out of total Rs 120 crore after two of their retentions were ‘uncapped’ players.
