Luxury for lead actors, small artistes’ share, showbiz truth revealed
New Delhi . As attractive as the glitter and glamor of Bollywood and the television industry may appear from a distance, the reality is equally different and sometimes shocking. Many artists who win the hearts of the audience with their powerful acting on screen have to struggle for respect and facilities behind the screen. Recently, actress Sunita Rajwar, who became popular by playing the role of Kranti Devi in the web series Panchayat, and actor Jatin Negi have exposed this bitter truth of the industry.
During a conversation, both the actors told that in the film and TV industry, actors are treated on the basis of their role and popularity. Jatin Negi says that character artists do not get full respect until they become big names like Paresh Rawal or Anupam Kher. He told that big artistes are provided with several vanity vans and complete staff whereas character artists get limited facilities. Many times he has to share the vanity van with other artistes.
Jatin said that the situation of small and background artists is even more difficult. They have to share the same van with many artistes and often have to wait for basic amenities. He also told that sometimes artists get paid for their work after 90 days, which increases financial problems.
Actress Sunita Rajwar also spoke openly about discrimination on the sets. He said that if an actor is in the lead role then the entire set revolves around him. He gets better rooms, better facilities and full support. Whereas actors playing small roles are often ignored. Many times even the spotboys do not give them importance.
Jatin Negi, while sharing his experience, said that there was a time when he was doing a background role and he had to struggle even to eat on the sets. He said that in the industry, artists are divided into A, B and C categories. There are separate dining arrangements for senior and popular artistes while junior and background artistes are served food in a separate section.
Sharing an old experience, he said that during a shooting, he was not allowed to enter the food section because of his getup. After a lot of convincing and contacting the production team, he got the food. He said that at that time he felt as if he had been isolated from society. Not only this, there is a huge difference in the quality of food given to different categories of artistes.
Both the artists believe that this discrimination in the industry is not limited to facilities only but is also clearly visible in respect and behaviour. He says that on the basis of talent and hard work, all the artists should get equal respect because the contribution of every artist is important in the success of any film or show.
These revelations have once again brought to the fore the truth of the entertainment world which is often less discussed. Behind the grand world seen on the screen for the audience, there are many artists who are struggling to fulfill their dreams as well as facing inequality.
