Madam Pang rewards Thailand players $32,000 ahead of SEA Games football final

Thailand U22 team have received a spirit boost with a big bonus from the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) president Nualphan Lamsam, popularly known as Madam Pang, ahead of their gold medal showdown against Vietnam.

Following their gritty 1-0 semi-final victory over Malaysia on Monday, Madam Pang announced a 1 million baht (US$31,738) bonus for the squad.

Combined with the 800,000 baht previously awarded for group stage wins against Timor-Leste and Singapore, the team have now amassed 1.8 million baht ($57,125) in bonuses from the FAT president during this campaign.

Thailand booked their place in the final thanks to an eighth-minute free-kick stunner by Yotsakon Burapha. Despite playing with more men from the 16th minute onward, the hosts struggled to break down a resilient Malaysia side further, holding on for a narrow 1-0 win.

On the other side, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has also rewarded its players. The Vietnam U22 team received VND500 million ($19,000) following their 2-0 semi-final win over the Philippines.

Added to the VND600 million bonus earned during the group stage, Vietnam’s total prize pot now stands at VND1.1 billion ($41,750).

Hosts Thailand will face Vietnam in the 33rd SEA Games men’s football final on Thursday, Dec. 18, at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. The final showdown will be reported live by Read International.
