Madras High Court demands Rs 10 lakh from MS Dhoni, former Indian captain had done this big ‘scandal’
New Delhi: Madras High Court has given an important order to former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The court has directed him to deposit Rs 10 lakh. At present MS Dhoni does not play any kind of cricket except IPL. In such a situation, this is a big shock for them. Let us know why the court has demanded Rs 10 lakh from MS Dhoni.
100 crore defamation case
This case has been going on since 2014. Dhoni had filed a defamation case demanding damages of Rs 100 crore. The main accused in the case is retired IPS officer G. This is Sampat Kumar. Some TV channels, journalists and media houses are also included.
It is alleged that Dhoni’s name was linked to the 2013 IPL betting and spot-fixing scam. These people said such things on TV and through other mediums, which tarnished Dhoni’s image. Dhoni called it false and defamatory and filed a case in the court.
Why is transcription of CD content necessary?
Dhoni has presented some CDs as evidence in the case. These include TV debates, news clips and other media material. In its order dated October 28, 2025, the court started the work of transcribing and translating the content of these CDs. This work has been entrusted to the official interpreter of the court.
The interpreter told the court that this work is very complex and time consuming. In this, an interpreter and a typist will have to spend full time for three-four months. Therefore the expenses will be higher.
Dhoni will have to pay all the expenses
The court said that as per the general rules, the plaintiff i.e. the one who files the case has to prepare and present such documents, but in this case a court interpreter was required, hence the expenses will have to be borne by the plaintiff i.e. Dhoni. The court has fixed the total expenses at Rs 10 lakh.
submission deadline
The court ordered that Dhoni will have to deposit this Rs 10 lakh in the Chief Justice Relief Fund of Madras High Court by 12 March 2026. The interpreter is instructed to complete the transcription and translation work by the third week of March 2026. The next hearing of the case will also be held on March 12.
This case is 12 years old and has dragged on due to many interim petitions. Now this order will help in taking the case forward. Dhoni’s lawyer has said that he will follow the court order.
