Mahakumbh 2025: Mauni Amavasya Railway will run like metro in Prayagraj, a train will leave every 4 minutes
Prayagraj: Maha Kumbh 2025 has started in Prayagraj with the bathing of Paush Purnima on 13 January. On the day of Makar Sankranti, on the first Amrit Snan festival of Maha Kumbh, about 3.5 crore devotees, more than expected, took bath in the holy Sangam. Till now more than 9 crore devotees have taken bath in Mahakumbh. In this sequence, preparations are in full swing for Mauni Amavasya, the biggest bathing festival of Mahakumbh.
Prayagraj Railway Board has also prepared a plan to run more than 150 fair special trains for crores of devotees coming on the day of Mauni Amavasya, which in itself will be a record for Indian Railways.
Direction wise fair special trains will operate from 9 stations of Prayagraj.
All the records of the devotees who came to Prayagraj and took bath in the Sangam in the divine-grand Mahakumbh 2025 are being destroyed. On the first Amrit Snan day of Makar Sankranti, more than 3.5 crore devotees took Sangam bath, for which Prayagraj Railway Board had run 101 fair special trains. Which was a record in itself. Similarly, the railway administration is also making preparations for the biggest nectar bathing festival of Maha Kumbh, Mauni Amavasya.
The fair authority estimates that more than 10 crore devotees will take bath in Sangam on the day of Mauni Amavasya. Out of which ten to twenty percent devotees are estimated to come by train. For which Prayagraj Railway Board has made complete preparations. Along with the movement of trains, arrangements for tickets and additional shelters have been made on the basis of color coding for the passengers to stay and reach the correct trains.

Describing the preparations of the Railways for the bathing festival of Mauni Amavasya, Senior PRO of Prayagraj Railway, Amit Malviya said that Prayagraj Railway will run more than 150 fair special trains on the day of Mauni Amavasya. Most of the trains will run from Prayagraj Junction, apart from this, direction-wise special trains will be operated from other stations of the division.
Apart from this, regular trains will also be operated as per time. He said that operating more than 150 special trains in a day from a station would be a record in itself. In Kumbh 2019, only about 85 fair special trains were operated on the festival of Mauni Amavasya. He told that as per the estimate of the number of regular trains and special trains running from Prayagraj Railway, one train will operate approximately every 4 minutes on the day of Mauni Amavasya.
