Maharashtra CM Fadnavis reached Ashatai’s residence, paid tribute with tearful eyes

Mumbai, 12 April. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed grief over the demise of Indian music veteran and versatile playback singer Asha Bhosle. He reached Ashatai’s house on Sunday evening, saw the mortal remains and paid tribute to him.

Maharashtra government minister Ashish Shelar also shared pictures of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paying tribute to Asha Bhosle on social media platform X. Shelar wrote in the caption of the pictures that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Ashatai’s residence and paid his last tribute to him. He consoled his family members.

Earlier, Chief Minister Fadnavis wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, ‘The news of the demise of veteran singer Ashatai Bhosale, awarded with Padma Vibhushan and Maharashtra Bhushan, is very heartbreaking. He had celebrated his 90th birthday with great pomp just three years ago. With his demise, after Lata Didi, another star of the Mangeshkar family has fallen. That beautiful chaman of tunes has become deserted today.

CM Fadnavis further wrote that Ashatai’s voice was the soul of music. Ashatai was an eternal spring in the field of singing and a vast ocean of sweet emotions. From soul-touching songs like ‘Tora Man Darpan Kehlae’ to songs like ‘Khallas’, he sang songs with immense emotion with ease. He left a unique mark on various genres like devotional songs, soulful tunes, dramatic music, ghazals, classical music, Rabindra Sangeet, folklore and pop. Ashatai, who sang more than 12,000 songs in Marathi, Hindi, Bengali as well as 20 other Indian and foreign languages, was also honored with awards like ‘Bangla Vibhushan’ on the lines of ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’.

She said, “Such a versatile singer, who adapted to change with such ease, will never come again. Recently, when we were together at a program on ‘World Radio Day’, she had insisted on me singing the song ‘Abhi Na Jao Bachde…’ for her and had even jokingly said, ‘Look, I have got the Chief Minister to sing the song for me’. It is unbearable to think that we will not be able to support Ashatai anymore. I offer her my heartfelt tribute to her.” We offer our condolences to his family and his countless fans across the country.”
