Maharashtra government took away the license of Ola-Uber and Rapido bike taxis, know how the journey will be now

News India Live, Digital Desk: If you travel by bike taxi in Mumbai, Pune or other big cities of Maharashtra, then this news is very important for you. Taking a tough decision, the Maharashtra government has canceled the temporary licenses of big aggregator companies like Ola, Uber and Rapido. Due to this action of the Transport Department, clouds of crisis are looming over the bike taxi services in the state. Why was such a big action taken? Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik informed about this decision in the Legislative Council. The main reasons for this displeasure of the government are as follows: Illegal use of petrol bikes: The government had allowed running of only electric bike (e-bike) taxis so that pollution could be reduced. But the investigation found that the companies were indiscriminately using petrol-powered bikes. Lack of documents: The companies were given time to complete the necessary documents and safety standards within a month, in which they failed. Safety and accidents: In the recent past, many complaints were registered regarding accidents related to bike taxis and especially the safety of women passengers. Violation of rules: Fixed under ‘Maharashtra E-Bike-Taxi Rules 2025’ The provisions were being violated again and again. What will happen next? The Transport Department has made it clear that now not only the driver riding the bike, but also the owner of the bike will be booked directly. One month’s grace: The government has given the last 30 days to the companies for improvements. Fear of permanent ban: If the rules are not followed even in this period, their license will be canceled permanently. Green signal only to e-bikes: The government’s stand is clear. Only those bike taxis will run on the roads of Maharashtra which will be 100% electric and will meet the safety standards of the government. Impact on the general public: This decision may cause problems to thousands of people who used to resort to bike taxis for ‘last mile connectivity’. However, the government says that there can be no compromise with the safety of passengers and the environment.
