BJP’s flag in urban areas, lead on 100+ seats; MVA reduced to 47

Maharashtra In the results of local body elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which leads the ruling coalition,BJP) has once again proved its dominance in urban areas. In the initial trends and declared results of the municipal elections, BJP is leading on more than 100 seats. Whereas Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) got a lead in only 47 seats with relatively weak performance. The situation of Shiv Sena included in MVA is not good. These results are being considered an important indication for the upcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Three BJP ministers have been elected unopposed.

Counting of votes for all 286 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats of Maharashtra is going on since morning. BJP has taken an initial lead in more than 100 city president seats across Maharashtra. BJP has emerged as the largest party. Even before the counting started, three BJP ministers have been elected unopposed. Two in city councils and one in gram panchayat. Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), including Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP and Congress, is so far ahead in more than 45 seats.

Municipal Council Election Results: Who is ahead from where?

Initial trends from Maharashtra municipal councils show mixed results for the major parties. In Nagpur district, BJP has won Wandongri Municipal Council and is leading in Kamathi seat. Whereas Shiv Sena is leading in It and Ramtek Municipal Councils. In Dhule district, BJP has won Dondaicha-Warwade Municipal Council, while in Jalgaon district, the party is leading in Jamner Municipal Council.

Maharashtra local body election results: NCP’s Jai Patil wins fourth consecutive victory as Baramati city president. His opponent got only 200 votes. Jai Patil won for the fourth time and before this he had also held the post of Deputy Mayor. Among NCP candidates, Mohini Naik, wife of Ajit Pawar’s minister Indranil Naik, is leading in Pusad.

Milan Kalyanshetty, brother of BJP MLA Sachin Kalyanshetty, is leading in Akkalkot. While Archana Rothe, sister of BJP MLA Pratap Adsad, is ahead in Dhamangaon. BJP MLA Harish Pimple’s brother Bhupendra is leading in Murtijapur. Chintan Patel, son of BJP MLA Amrish Patel, is ahead in Shirpur.

Dominance given to relatives of BJP leaders

The dominance of relatives of senior BJP leaders is visible. In Jamner, Sadhna Mahajan, wife of BJP minister Girish Mahajan, has been elected unopposed as Municipal Council President. In Chalisgaon, Pratibha Chavan, wife of BJP MLA Mangesh Chavan, is leading in the race for mayor. Nayan Kunwar Rawal, mother of BJP minister Jaikumar Rawal, is leading in Dondaicha, while Rajni Savkare, wife of BJP minister Sanjay Savkare, is leading in Bhusaval. In Khamgaon, BJP minister Akash Phundkar’s sister-in-law Aparna is also ahead.

The trends of the first two hours of vote counting in Maharashtra’s Municipal Council elections show that BJP has emerged as the largest party. According to the trends, BJP is going to get the post of Municipal Council President in 95 places. Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) is ahead in 41 city councils. Whereas Ajit Pawar led NCP is ahead in 32. Shiv Sena (UBT) faction is ahead in eight councils, while Sharad Pawar-led NCP is ahead in 11. Congress is ahead in 26 city councils, due to which it is in a position to get the post of president in these bodies.

Independent candidates and local alliances are also performing strongly. Shiv Sena (UBT) candidates are leading in more than 25 cities and are leading on 10 Municipal Council President posts. Whereas NCP led by Sharad Pawar is ahead on 12. Congress candidates have taken an early lead on 16 city council president posts.

BJP candidate Pradeep Patil is ahead in Gangapur, Parshuram Bargal in Khuldabad, BJP candidate Dinesh Pardeshi is ahead in Vaijapur on the basis of counting of postal ballots. Whereas Suhas Shirsat is leading for the party in Fulambri. Shiv Sena candidate Sameer Sattar is ahead in Sillod, Congress candidate Sheikh Farin is ahead in Kannada, UBT candidate Aparna Gorde is ahead in Paithan.

Controversy before counting begins

The controversy started even before the counting formally began. MVA alleged irregularities in the process. MVA mayoral candidate Bhavana Ghanekar formally objected to this incident. Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders and workers objected to the contractor’s presence inside the strong room and questioned how he was allowed inside while carrying breakfast.

EC eyes Baramati, Ambernath seats

Key local bodies like Baramati in Pune district and Ambernath in Thane district are among the key councils being closely watched, the results of which are expected to give an early indication ahead of the big municipal elections next month.

BJP wins unopposed in three bodies

The results of two city councils and one city panchayat were declared even before the counting began. The BJP won unopposed in Dondaicha-Warwade Municipal Council in Dhule district, Jamner Municipal Council in Jalgaon district and Ungar Nagar Panchayat in Solapur district.

Shinde confident of Mahayuti’s victory

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed confidence in the prospects of the ruling alliance in the ongoing municipal elections. According to news agency ANI, he said, “The Mahayuti alliance contested the Lok Sabha elections, the Assembly elections and it will also contest the Municipal Corporation elections and the Mahayuti alliance will win.”

This time BJP aims to break the record of 2017. BJP state president Ravindra Chavan said that even before the voting started, 100 BJP candidates of city councils had been elected unopposed. Talking about the party’s performance in 2017, he said that it had won 72 municipal councils. Chavan said that BJP aims to cross that number in the 2025 local body elections.

Counting of votes started at 10 am

According to Maharashtra Election Commission, counting of votes for all 286 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats is going on from 10 am on Sunday. The results so far include those bodies for which elections were held in the first phase on December 2 and the second phase on December 20. The local body elections saw a direct contest between the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, with friendly contests also taking place on many seats between alliance partners like BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and Ajit Pawar-led NCP.

Let us tell you that local body elections were held in two phases. Of these, voting was held in 263 bodies on December 2. Elections were held on the remaining 23 councils and many vacant posts on Saturday. There is a direct contest in these elections between the BJP led Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi. Friendly competitions have been seen within the alliance.
