The India vs England T20 World Cup semi-final match is being played today at the prestigious Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Its influence has completely spread on the politics of Maharashtra also. Demand for ticket raised in assembly

These days the budget session of Maharashtra Assembly is going on in Vidhan Bhawan located very close to Wankhede Stadium. During the House proceedings, BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar introduced the issue in a light-hearted manner. He urged the government to respect the wish of the MLAs that they want to sit in the stadium and watch India defeat England.

On this, Presiding Officer Dilip Lande, sensing the sentiments of the House, took a strong stand. He gave clear instructions to the state government that suitable arrangements should be made for the MLAs who want to watch the match. He even said that the government should take a decision on this within an hour. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule assured that he will seriously consider this demand.

Officers get passes, why not public representatives?

This passion for the India vs England semi-final match was also seen in the Legislative Council, but here the tone was a bit harsh. Sachin Ahir of Shiv Sena (UBT) expressed deep displeasure over not getting the pass and ticket. He reminded that when Sharad Pawar was the BCCI president, match passes were given to MLAs during the session.

Ahir alleged that online tickets are available, but big corporate companies buy tickets in bulk for their employees, leaving nothing for the common people and public representatives. Raising a sharp question, he said, ‘Police and IAS officers are easily found near the stadium, but no one pays attention to the representatives elected by the public.’

Members of both the ruling party and the opposition seemed united on this issue. Everyone demanded in one voice that the government should make arrangements for them to sit in Wankhede. At present, more than the files of the budget session, the discussion is about how many MLAs have got Wankhede ‘VIP pass’ Will be able to get.
