Maharashtra results: MVA charters planes for MLAs; confident Mahayuti begins CM post talks
With a day left for the Maharastra elections to come, both ruling Mahayuti and opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are preparing for the outcome. While the race for the Chief Minister post has heated up in the Mahayuti camp, MVA ally Congress has reportedly charted a special plane for its MLA to avoid horse-trading.
Both fronts, especially the MVA, are buoyed by increased voter turnout. The Congress believes this will translate into the votes for the Opposition, especially in the Vidharba region. The average voter turnout in the state has increased by more than 4 per cent.
According to the Congress, the voter turnout indicates anti-incumbency sentiment. The party believes that out of 62 seats in Vidarbha, the Congress will get 35 to 40 seats. Hence, the focus in the Congress camp is to prevent the breakaway of MLAs. As soon as the results are announced, steps are in place to take the MLAs in a special plane to an undisclosed location.
Local media reports claim Opposition Leader Vijay Wadettiwar has also been entrusted with keeping in touch with independent candidates who are likely to be elected. Vadettiwar is also responsible for the arrangement of MLAs in East Vidarbha.
Meanwhile, the exit polls have created a buzz in the Mahayuti camp. The talks about government formation with the support of Independents have gained strength since some exit polls predict a hung Assembly.
So much so that Shiv Sena Shinde group leader and minister Deepak Kesarkar has made a big statement regarding the formation of government before the result. “If necessary, we will form the government with independents,” Kesarkar added.
There are also reports that various discussions have taken place in the political circle.
