32.78 lakh new vehicles came on the roads of Maharashtra in 2025, this city, not Mumbai, remained on top.

Maharashtra Vehicle Registration 2025: The number of vehicles in Maharashtra is increasing rapidly. A significant increase has been recorded in the registration of new vehicles during the year 2025. According to government data, a total of 32.78 lakh new vehicles were registered in the state, while in the year 2024 the figure was 28.87 lakh. In this way, an increase of about 13.55 percent was recorded in vehicle registration in one year.

Two-wheelers accounted for the highest number of newly registered vehicles. A total of 22.92 lakh two-wheelers were registered in the year 2025. After this 5.05 lakh cars were registered. 1.46 lakh tractors, 1.35 lakh trucks and 88,352 auto rickshaws used in the agriculture sector were also included in the registration list. Apart from this, 57,159 other category vehicles and 13,346 buses were registered.

Pune and Mumbai remained at the forefront

If we look at the district wise figures, maximum number of vehicles were registered in Pune at 3,31,488. At the same time, a total of 3.02 lakh new vehicles were registered in metropolitan Mumbai. This shows that the demand for private vehicles is continuously increasing in urban areas.

Shopping increased during festivals

Of the total registrations across 58 RTO offices in Maharashtra, the highest number of vehicles were registered in the months of October and November. In these two months, 8.56 lakh vehicles were registered during the festivals. In contrast, the lowest number of 1.99 lakh new vehicles was registered in the month of February.

Road network in Maharashtra

According to the Economic Survey 2024-25, the total road network of Maharashtra is spread over 3,28,526 km. This includes 18,366 km of national highways, 2,692 km of major state roads and 3,922 km of other state roads, while the remaining are district roads.

However, with the increasing number of vehicles, road safety also remains a major challenge. The state recorded 33,002 road accidents between January and November, in which 14,066 people lost their lives and 29,038 were injured.
