Mahashivratri fast 2026 puja method
- On the day of Maha Shivratri, wake up early in the morning and take a pledge to fast.
- Set up a platform for puja and spread a clean yellow or red cloth on it.
- Then keep some rice on this post and install the idol of Lord Shiva.
- Take an earthen or copper urn and make a Swastika on it and add some Ganges water and pure water in it.
- Also add betel nut, coin and lump of turmeric in it.
- Light a lamp of cow ghee in front of Lord Shiva and also install a small Shivalinga.
- If there is no Shivalinga in the house then prepare it from clay.
- Anoint Shivling with water, milk or Panchamrit. Keep chanting Om Namah Shivay mantra in your mind.
- After this, wipe the Shivling with a clean cloth and offer Belpatra, Dhatura, Bhang, Shami flowers and fruits etc. on it.
- Then read the story of Maha Shivratri and perform Aarti of Lord Shiva with camphor.
- After this, offer sweets, kheer and fruits. After the puja is over, distribute the prasad among everyone.
