Mahindra & Mahindra Starts Rs 4500 Crore EV & Battery Factory In Pune With 500 Robots

Recently, Anand Mahindra-led Mahindra has announced the launch of its latest cutting-edge production and battery assembly facility which is located at its Chakan factory.

Launch Of Chakan Manufacturing Complex

It appears that this plant is into the production of Electric Origin SUVs which is located within the company’s Chakan manufacturing complex.

It is one of India’s largest greenfield projects, measuring 2.83 km².

This plant is special as it is water-positive and runs entirely on renewable energy.

Mahindra seems to have set aside Rs 4,500 crores from the total investment cycle of Rs 16,000 crores for powertrain development, product top hats, software and technology, and manufacturing capacity.

Basically, this EV production centre is a highly automated environment with over 1,000 robots along with many automated transfer mechanisms.

When it comes to this institution, it strives for a 25% gender diversity ratio with further emphasising skill development and quality.

This plant is producing Electric Origin SUVs  located within the company’s Chakan manufacturing complex, one of India’s largest greenfield projects, measuring 2.83 km².

Moving ahead, this plant is water-positive and runs entirely on renewable energy.

This Next-Generation EV Plant is approximately 88,000 m² dedicated to the EV domain.

Fully Automated & Compact Production Line

Coming to automation, this plant features a fully automated Press Shop, an AI-driven Body Shop, and a sophisticated robotic Paint Shop to optimize quality and efficiency.

Further, it uses over 500 robots and fully automated transfer systems in the Body Shop, monitored via an IoT-based “Nerve Center” for real-time process insights and end-to-end traceability.

This plant adopts Industry 4.0 technologies such as Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) for seamless material movement.

This plant is equipped with one of the world’s most compact battery production lines, using innovative methods and lean module assembly.

This plant combines world-class manufacturing processes designed and further applied in-house to make, store, and transport high-performance, long-lasting batteries utilising Industry 4.0 technology.

It has Innovative features which include a revolutionary pallet design for maximum insulation and geometric correctness, as well as buried cell terminal welding for improved connection and durability.

Testing & Quality Assurance

When it comes to testing, this plant has the facility to conduct multi-layered end-of-line testing to simulate real-world situations which is supported by IP67 ingress protection, real-time temperature monitoring, and automatic anomaly isolation.

This plant is much ahead in quality Assurance as it uses a no-fault-forward philosophy which is combined with patented switching technology to assure higher product quality and dependability.
