Mahindra & Mahindra, India’s leading SUV manufacturer, has delivered a slight blow to SUV enthusiasts by announcing an immediate price hike for its legendary model, the Mahindra Scorpio Classic. Known for its rugged appeal and “boss” road presence, the Scorpio Classic will now cost more across its variant lineup. The company cited rising input costs and commodity price fluctuations as the primary reasons behind this adjustment.

New Prices Effective Immediately

The price revision affects both the entry-level and top-end trims of the Scorpio Classic. While the hike varies depending on the variant, the starting price has seen a noticeable jump. Prospective buyers who were planning to book the SUV will now have to shell out several thousand rupees more. Despite the increase, industry experts believe the demand for the Scorpio Classic will remain steady due to its cult following and lack of direct rivals in its specific niche.

Variant-Wise Price Breakdown

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is primarily sold in two main variants: the base S and the fully-loaded S11.

Scorpio Classic S: The entry-level variant, popular among fleet operators and those looking for a robust workhorse, has seen a price increment of approximately ₹25,000 to ₹30,000.

Scorpio Classic S11: The top-spec trim, which comes with alloy wheels, a touchscreen infotainment system, and signature LED DRLs, has also witnessed a similar upward revision. No Changes to Mechanical Specifications

Despite the price hike, Mahindra has not introduced any mechanical or cosmetic changes to the vehicle. It continues to be powered by the reliable 2.2-litre mHawk diesel enginewhich produces 130 PS of power and 300 Nm of peak torque. The SUV remains a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) beast mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, offering the same raw driving experience that has made the Scorpio brand a household name in India for over two decades.

Market Position and Competition

The Scorpio Classic continues to sell alongside its more modern sibling, the Scorpio-N. While the Scorpio-N targets urban buyers looking for luxury and tech, the Classic remains the go-to choice for those in semi-urban and rural markets who value durability and low maintenance. Currently, the Scorpio Classic faces competition from the likes of the Tata Safari and MG Hector in terms of pricing, but it holds a unique position as a ladder-frame chassis SUV with a distinct heritage.
