Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga has achieved another boost before its release by securing the top spot on IMDb’s Most Anticipated New Indian Movies and Shows list.
The film, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina and Sharvari, has already generated strong buzz through its trailer and songs.
The love story, set against the backdrop of Partition, has now moved ahead of titles such as Toxic, I am young so there is love and Welcome To The Jungle on the anticipation chart.
Recently the 54-year-old director has spoken about the challenges that can come with filmmaking in an age where public reactions can be swift and unpredictable.
In an interview with The Free Press Journalthe filmmaker recalled that the only movie that landed him in legal trouble was not one of his more serious films, but the popular romantic drama Jab We Met.
“Can you believe that the only film that I have gone to court for was Jab We Met? What could be the controversy?” he said.

He revealed that a complaint was filed against him over the way Ratlam was portrayed in the film.
“There was a non-bailable warrant against me. I would have gone to prison,” he said.
Reflecting on the experience, the Highway maker added, “So, the moral of the story is that any arrow can come from any side, and you can’t stop walking on the street because of that.”
He also stressed the responsibility that comes with filmmaking, saying, “I should not try to hurt anyone.”
Backed by Applause Entertainment and Window Seat Films, Main Vaapas Aaunga is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 12, 2026.
