Amravati:A horrific road accident took place late Thursday night on the hilly road located between Chinturu and Bhadrachalam districts of Andhra Pradesh. A private bus carrying 35 passengers suddenly lost control and fell into a deep gorge, killing nine people on the spot, while many passengers were seriously injured. After an overnight rescue operation by the local administration and rescue teams, the injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals.
How did the accident happen?
The incident took place on the Chinturu-Bhadrachalam road, which is considered extremely risky due to twists and turns and hilly slopes. According to preliminary information, the bus took a sharp turn at high speed, but the driver could not control the vehicle. The bus broke the barrier installed on the roadside and fell into the ditch below. Some eyewitnesses said that the bus shook jerkily while taking a turn and overturned and rolled into the ditch.
Local residents took command of relief
After the accident, nearby villagers immediately ran for help and started relief work at their level. There was difficulty in the rescue operation due to darkness and depth of the ditch. Despite this, people together pulled out the injured and informed the police and ambulance about the incident. Relief work continued from around 1 o’clock in the night till morning, after which all the injured were sent to the hospital.
Treatment of the injured continues
According to officials, many passengers have suffered serious injuries. The situation of some remains worrying. The injured are being treated in government hospitals of Chinturu and Bhadrachalam. The district administration has made preparations to refer serious patients to big hospitals for better treatment. The process of identifying the deceased is ongoing and information is being sent to the families.
Questions raised on bus transport company
After the accident, questions are also being raised on the private bus operator company. Passengers told that the speed of the bus was very high and the driver was repeatedly turning the vehicle rapidly. Local people claim that many times accidents have happened on this route due to overspeeding. Police have registered a case against the driver and a detailed investigation is being conducted into the cause of the accident.
Administration assured compensation
Expressing deep grief over the accident, the state government has announced compensation to the families of the deceased. Also, instructions have been issued to provide proper medical facilities to all the injured. Officials said that a detailed investigation will be conducted into this accident and road safety measures will be improved if necessary.

Many families have lost their loved ones, while many people are fighting for their lives in hospitals.
