Major accident in Pakistan: Coal mine collapsed due to gas explosion, 4 killed; 8 miners trapped

Quetta: Part of a coal mine collapsed due to a gas explosion in Quetta's Sanjadi area on Thursday evening, trapping 12 miners. So far the bodies of four miners have been recovered. The rescue operation is going on, in which efforts are being made to rescue eight trapped people.

Authorities are working tirelessly to reach the trapped miners and the rescue operation has been going on for more than 27 hours. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has confirmed that three more bodies have been recovered from the mine, taking the total number of bodies recovered to four.

Miners trapped 4,300 feet below, rescue work difficult

Relief work is underway to save the miners trapped in a mine about 4,300 feet below in Balochistan, Pakistan. According to reports, the rescue operation is facing difficulties due to gas in the mine and bad weather.

A methane gas explosion in a coal mine in Pakistan's Balochistan province led to the complete collapse of the mine. 12 miners are feared dead in this accident. Mining Department official Abdul Ghani Baloch said that 12 employees of a private company were working in the mine when suddenly there was a gas explosion. After the explosion, all routes inside the mine were closed, slowing down the rescue operation.

The rescue team has so far failed to find the main entrance of the mine, causing great difficulty in the rescue operation. On receiving information about the accident, local administration and rescue teams reached the spot.

This accident has happened before

Mining accidents have become common in Pakistan. The main reason for this is that mine safety standards are not followed here. Last year in March 2024, a similar incident had occurred in the same area when 18 miners were trapped in a coal mine in Harnai, Balochistan. Rescuers later recovered 12 bodies, and six miners were rescued with injuries. This explosion occurred due to accumulation of poisonous gas inside the cave.
