Major action by STF-Police in Ballia, 471 boxes of illegal liquor recovered; three smugglers arrested
Baliya. In a major action, the joint team of Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police and Bairia Police Station has seized 471 boxes of illegal liquor. The estimated value of the recovered liquor is said to be around Rs 23 lakh. Three smugglers have also been arrested from the spot.
According to the information, information was received from the informer on Thursday that there is a preparation to fill two pickup vehicles with liquor and send it to Bihar by boat through the river via Bhawan Tola Bandhe of Jaiprakash Nagar. Based on the information, a team was formed under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Faizuddin Siddiqui (STF) and Inspector-in-charge Bairiya Rajendra Prasad Singh. Even before the building was closed, the police team surrounded it and started waiting for the pickup vehicles.
After some time, two pickup vehicles one behind the other were seen going towards Bhawan Tola Bandhe. The police immediately gave chase. Seeing the road ahead closed, the drivers stopped the vehicle and the people in it started running away, but the police laid siege and caught all three. The arrested accused have been identified as Dharamjit Bharti (resident of Hussainabad Bansdih), Karan Kumar Shah (resident of Bairia) and Pintu Prasad (resident of Bahadurpur, Kotwali Ballia).
During interrogation, the accused told that the liquor was brought from a warehouse located in Bairiya and it was to be sent to Bihar by boat. During the search of both the pickup vehicles, the police recovered a total of 471 boxes of liquor of different brands. The police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections and have also seized both the pickup vehicles and started further legal action.
