23-year-old Shreyanka Patil suffered the injury during India’s 95-run win against the Netherlands in Leeds on Wednesday. The incident happened in the last over of the powerplay, when Patil twisted his ankle while trying to stop the ball. As soon as the injury occurred, she sat down holding her right leg and the team physio immediately reached the field. Unable to put any weight on his injured ankle, he had to be taken off the field on a stretcher after throwing just one ball.

According to the statement issued by BCCI, the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup has approved the replacement of Shreyanka Patil. After this, the Women’s Selection Committee has included leg spinner Prema Rawat in the Indian team for the remaining matches of the World Cup. Prema, who has been a part of India A, took eight wickets in five matches during India’s victory in the Women’s Asia Cup ‘Rising Stars’ tournament. She was also the joint-top wicket-taker on the India A tour of Australia last year, taking seven wickets in three T20 matches.
