Big shock to China: Strict rules on CCTV from April 1, now cheap cameras will not be available!
Security Regulations India: The Indian government is once again preparing to give a big economic blow to China. New and strict rules are going to be implemented for CCTV cameras sold in the country from April 1, 2026. Once these rules are implemented, it may become difficult for big Chinese companies like Hikvision, Dahua and TP-Link to survive in the Indian market.
What do the new rules say?
The government has launched “Standardization Testing and Quality Certification (STQC)” New mandatory conditions have been imposed under. Now STQC approval will be required for every CCTV device sold in India. According to reports, officials are refusing to give certification to Chinese companies or devices with Chinese chipsets. This clearly means that if there is no certificate, then there is no entry in the market. This means that this step can have a ban-like effect.
Not just business, security is also a big reason
This decision is not limited to trade policy only, but is also related to the security of the country. The concern is whether these foreign CCTV devices can give remote access to sensitive video footage without permission? Under the new rules, companies will be required to document every critical component of their devices, especially the “system-on-chip” The source will have to be mentioned. Additionally, the device will also have to undergo rigorous vulnerability testing.
Two years grace period is over, now strictness begins
When the government announced these rules in April 2024, it had given companies two years to update their supply chains and products. Now this transition period is over and the rules will be fully implemented from April 1.
Increased dominance of Indian companies
Earlier, Chinese companies dominated the Indian CCTV market and their share had reached almost one-third. But now the picture is changing. Indian companies like CP Plus, Qubo, Prama, Matrix and Sparsh have rapidly strengthened their hold. These companies strengthened their supply chains with Taiwanese chipsets and also localized the software. According to Counterpoint Research, by February 2026, Indian companies will have captured more than 80% of the market.

More than 500 models got certificates
Under the new system, so far more than 500 CCTV models have received STQC certification. It is clear that the process is progressing rapidly. The companies which were already prepared are now in a stronger position. At the same time, those which depended on Chinese components or could not make changes on time, may be almost out of the market after April 1.
What will be the impact on common people?
After these new rules, the availability of cheap CCTV cameras in the market may reduce. However, this will improve security and data privacy, which may prove beneficial for customers in the long run.
