Big decision of Delhi government, 56 special electric buses for women; Know the route and timing

The Delhi government has taken a big step towards making public transport more safe, convenient and reliable for women commuters of the capital. Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is preparing to launch 56 electric bus services exclusively for women. These will include 30 Ladies Special Electric Buses for the convenience of working women and 26 University Ladies Special (U-SPL) Electric Buses for the safe movement of girl students.

According to the Transport Department, these special electric buses being started for women will be operated on 28 busiest routes of the capital. The objective of the scheme is to provide relief to women passengers from congestion during morning and evening peak hours and to provide them safe, comfortable and timely travel facilities. With the operation of these buses, working women and college-university students will get a lot of convenience in their daily commute. This service, being provided separately for women passengers, will not only increase the safety and convenience in public transport but will also strengthen the environment-friendly transport system through electric buses.

Know on which routes and at what time Ladies Special buses will run

30 Ladies Special Electric Buses of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will connect major office areas, commercial areas, institutional centers and important metro interchanges of the capital. These buses will be operated especially keeping in mind the needs of working women. According to the transport department, these buses will operate between 7:52 am to 9:00 am and 4:32 pm to 6:15 pm, to provide safe and convenient travel facilities to office-going women during peak hours.

At the same time, 26 University Ladies Special (U-SPL) electric buses will connect North Campus, South Campus and other major educational institutions of Delhi University with the major residential areas of the capital. These include areas like Najafgarh, Rohini, Janakpuri, Mundka, Mayur Vihar, Kalkaji, Palla and Dhaulakuan.

There will be special focus on safety, buses will be equipped with modern facilities

According to the Delhi government, all the 56 ladies special buses being started for women will be 100 percent electric. The safety and convenience of women passengers has been given top priority in these buses. Arrangements like CCTV cameras, panic buttons linked to the Operation Control Center (OCC), low-floor ramps and deployment of bus marshals or women police personnel if required will be made in the buses. Apart from this, special branding will also be done to differentiate these buses, so that women can easily identify them. The government said that these special buses will also be linked to the Pink Smart Card system. With this, eligible women passengers will get the facility of cashless and free travel.

Women’s safety priority of government: Transport Minister

Delhi Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said that ensuring safety, respect and convenient travel of women is among the top priorities of the Delhi government. He said that this special electric bus network being started for women has been prepared keeping in mind the busiest routes of the capital and the needs of women passengers. The government is committed to developing a safe, environment-friendly and modern public transport system through electric buses. He said that this initiative will not only make women’s travel more safe and comfortable, but will also strengthen the clean and sustainable transport system in the capital.

Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said that the Delhi government under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is continuously working towards developing a more safe, inclusive and reliable public transport system for women. He expressed confidence that the operation of Ladies Special Electric Buses will provide great relief to working women and girl students in their daily commute.
