Kolkata. The political crisis within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has deepened in West Bengal. TMC Supremo and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has suffered a big blow on Wednesday. Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Bose has recognized Ritabrata Banerjee as the Leader of Opposition. Let us tell you that earlier Mamata Banerjee had nominated Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay for this post, but opposition came to the fore within the party. Didi, please guide me by becoming the chief advisor.
Expelled TMC MLA Ritabrata Banerjee said that this two-thirds strong legislative party of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the 18th West Bengal Legislative Assembly does not believe in ‘I’, it believes in ‘we’. Whatever rules have been made, we have followed every rule. That is why we have been accepted as the main opposition party in the 18th West Bengal Assembly. We want Mamata Banerjee to be our chief advisor and give us advice that will help us strengthen our position as the opposition. 80 members were elected on the election symbol of Trinamool Congress. More than two-thirds of those members have submitted their claim, and that claim has been accepted.
A month after its defeat in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections, the news of the split in the Trinamool Congress has now become official. Out of total 80 Trinamool Congress MLAs in the Assembly, 58 MLAs have rebelled under the leadership of expelled party MLAs Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha.
On Wednesday, a new resolution was presented in the Assembly, which was signed by these 58 MLAs. It was claimed that he is the real representative of Trinamool Congress. In this proposal, Trinamool Congress MLA Ritabrata Banerjee from Uluberia (East) assembly seat of Howrah district has been named Leader of Opposition (LOP). In the same proposal, Trinamool Congress MLAs have been named deputy leaders of the opposition. These include Sandipan Saha from Entali assembly seat of North Kolkata, Shiuli Saha from Keshpur in West Medinipur district and Javed Ahmed Khan from Kasba in South 24 Parganas district.

All the 58 MLAs whose signatures were on this resolution started reaching the assembly premises one by one in the morning. After this, an emergency meeting of the rebel MLAs was held, in which five names were approved for the five seats reserved for the opposition in the Assembly. After this, 58 MLAs under the leadership of Ritabrata Banerjee went to the Speaker’s chamber and presented the proposal. The speaker accepted this proposal.
Last month, Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee had sent a letter to the Speaker’s office. In this, Shobhandev Chattopadhyay was named the Leader of Opposition (LOP), Naina Bandopadhyay and Asima Patra were named two deputy leaders of the opposition and Firhad Hakim was named the Chief Whip of the Trinamool Congress Legislative Party in the Assembly.
