Tulsi and cutting of trees: According to religious beliefs, cutting or pruning of trees is prohibited on the day of Sankranti. Especially basil leaves should not be plucked. Doing so is considered disrespect to nature and the gods.
Insulting charity: Charity has special significance on Sankranti. If a beggar comes to your door, do not return him empty handed. Donate sesame, jaggery or grains as per your capacity. Having ego in mind while donating makes the virtue void.
