Make Amritsari dry dal full of Punjabi flavour, whoever eats it will lick his fingers

The special thing is that this dal does not take much time to prepare and it tastes very tasty with roti or paratha. Let us know the recipe of making Amritsari dry dal in an easy way at home.

  • Chana dal – 1 cup
  • Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
  • Tomato – 1 (finely chopped)
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Green chilli – 2
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Garam masala – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Coriander – to garnish
  • Ghee or oil – 2 tbsp

How to make Amritsari Dry Dal

To make Amritsari dry dal, first wash the chana dal thoroughly and soak it for 30 minutes. After this, add pulses, some salt and water in the cooker and cook for 2-3 whistles. Keep in mind that the pulses should not melt too much.

Heat ghee or oil in a pan. Add onion to it and fry until it turns golden. Now add ginger-garlic paste and green chillies and cook till aroma comes.

Now add tomatoes to it and cook until soft. After this, add turmeric, red chilli, coriander powder and salt and fry the spices well.

Now add boiled lentils to the spices and mix well. Cook on low flame until the dal becomes dry and spicy.

Finally add garam masala and sprinkle green coriander on top. Serve hot Amritsari dry dal with roti or paratha. This dal can also be prepared and served on special occasions.
