News India Live, Digital Desk: At the end of Navratri, Prasad of black gram is specially made for offering to Mata Rani and for Kanya Puja (Kanjak). People often complain that gram becomes dry at home or the coating of spices on it is not good. But today we are telling you that ‘Halvai Style’ Secret Recipedue to which your gram will not only become soft but will also be full of spices and spicy. Let us know the step-by-step easy method.
Ingredients
Black gram: 1 cup (soaked overnight)
Oil/Ghee: 2 tbsp
Cumin: 1 tbsp
Green chilly: 2-3 (finely chopped)
Ginger: 1 inch piece (grated)
Spices: Turmeric (½ tsp), Coriander powder (2 tsp), Kashmiri red chilli (1 tsp), Dry mango powder (1 tsp), Garam masala (½ tsp), Roasted cumin powder (½ tsp).
Salt: As per taste (use rock salt)
Green Coriander: finely chopped
Method of preparation (Step-by-Step Recipe)
Boil gram: Put the chickpeas soaked overnight in the cooker. Add water and half a spoon of salt in it till a little above the grams. Boil on medium flame till 4-5 whistles. Keep in mind that the gram should become soft but should not burst.
Prepare Masala Paste (Secret Tip): Take all the dry spices (turmeric, coriander, chilli, mango powder) in a small bowl and make a thick paste by adding 2-3 spoons of water to it. By doing this, the spices do not burn in the oil and stick well to the gram.
Add tempering: Heat ghee or oil in a pan. Crack cumin seeds in it, then add chopped green chillies and ginger and fry lightly.
Roast Masala: Now add the spice paste to the pan and fry for 1-2 minutes until the oil starts separating.
Gram and Coating: Now put boiled gram (with some water) in the pan. Cook it until all the water dries up and the spices coat the chickpeas well. Finally add garam masala and finely chopped coriander and mix well.
Special tips for great taste
Soft gram: Adding a pinch of baking soda while boiling gram makes them soft like halwa.
Bhandara Flavour: If you cook gram in an iron pan, its color and taste will be exactly the same as it is in Mata’s Bhandara.
Without onion-garlic: Since this Prasad is for Kanya Puja, the use of onion and garlic in it is prohibited. The flavor of asafoetida and ginger will make it wonderful.
