New Delhi: Famous director and producer of Malayalam Film Industry, Ranjith Balakrishnan has been accused of serious sexual harassment. He is 61 years old. Kerala Police has arrested him on 31 March 2026. After this, the court has sent him to judicial custody till 13 April. He is now in Ernakulam Sub Jail.
What is the whole matter?
A young actress complained against Ranjeet Balakrishna that on January 30, during the shooting of the film, Ranjeet came in her vanity van. There he tried to sexually assault her. The actress had earlier given a complaint to the film’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). Later he also lodged a written complaint with Kochi Police. Police registered a case at Ernakulam Women’s Police Station.
Director’s honor ruined
The allegations in this case include behavior insulting the dignity of a woman, sexual harassment and wrongful restraint. These are non-bailable sections. Ranjit Balakrishnan has been working in Malayalam cinema for a long time. He is a director, scriptwriter and producer. He has also served as the Chairman of Kerala State Chalachitra Academy. But even before this, allegations of sexual harassment had been made against him. In the year 2024, Bengali actress Srilekha Mitra had also accused him, after which he left the post of the Academy.
