Malihabad pack house closed again: Mangoes and vegetables not available for export, company incurs monthly loss of lakhs

Prashant Saxena, Lucknow, Amrit Thoughts: The Mango Pack of Mandi Parishad made in Malihabad is lying closed since the export of mangoes last year. At that time the company did not get mangoes for export as per the demand, somehow exported 29 tonnes of mangoes. After this, to meet the expenses of lakhs of rupees every month including rent, electricity and machinery, other fruits and vegetables were also not available for export. The company, which is incurring a loss of lakhs every month, has once again expressed confidence in mangoes and has already started preparations for export.

The pack house was operated afresh by a company in June 2025 by taking a tender. To increase the export of mango, many meetings and preparations were done at the departmental level, orders were taken from many countries. Despite all efforts, mangoes were not available for export. The reason for this is that outside exporters gave higher prices to the growers than the pack houses and bought mangoes from the orchards and exported them directly. Because of this the pack house could last only for a month. Whereas to meet the expenses of lakhs every month including rent, bananas, green chillies and other vegetables were also not available for export. There was talk of purchasing vegetables from Kolkata, but this exercise also failed due to high expenditure. Company CEO Amit Aggarwal said that this time we will export more and more mangoes. Preparations have been started after holding a meeting.

Only 1 percent of mangoes are exported from pack houses

Mango is produced the most in the state in 14 districts including Lucknow, Unnao, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, Banaras, Sahanpur. Only 1 percent is exported from pack houses. In June 2025, 29 tonnes of mangoes went to some countries including Japan, Malaysia, London, Belgium. Earlier, the company which was running the pack house also could not increase the export of mango due to the same reasons. Whereas this time the new company has installed Gamma Radiation Unit as per the demand of some countries. It is linked to the export integrated unit. Where fruits and vegetables are processed, packed and gamma radiation treated as per demand.

Impact of war on exports to Gulf countries

Here, due to the ongoing war between America, Israel and Iran, the export of agricultural products, especially to the Gulf countries, has come to a complete standstill. Vegetables and produce have been dumped due to closure of air services. Vegetables are also getting spoiled. Due to inability to send goods, exporters have also stopped purchasing from farmers. Farmers are also selling in the local market and states.
