Mallikarjun Kharge: Politics in the country has once again heated up over the statement given by BJP MP and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut on farmers. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday alleged that anti-farmer hateful mentality is ingrained in the ruling party and the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is against the legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP), regarding a comment made by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Kangana Ranaut.
Kangana had said on Tuesday, “The agricultural laws that have been repealed should be brought back. I think this can be controversial. The laws should be brought back in the interest of the farmers. The farmers themselves should demand this, so that there is no hindrance to their prosperity.”
BJP has distanced itself from his statement and said that this is his personal opinion.
Kharge posted on 'X', “Even after the martyrdom of 750 farmers, the anti-farmer BJP and Modi government have not realized their grave crime. There is talk of re-implementing the three anti-farmer black laws. The Congress party strongly opposes this.”
He said that the Modi government, which crushed the farmers under vehicles, used everything against our Annadaatas (food providers) – barbed wires, tear gas from drones, nails and guns. He said that the 62 crore farmers of India will never be able to forget all this.
The Congress president claimed that this time, all the states including Haryana will give a befitting reply to the Prime Minister's own derogatory remarks like “agitator” and “parasite” for the farmers in Parliament.
He said, “Due to Modiji's statements, his ministers, MPs and the propaganda machinery have become habituated to insulting farmers.”

He alleged that the government committee announced by Modi while withdrawing the farmers' agitation is still in cold storage. He claimed that the Modi government is against the legal guarantee of MSP.
Kharge said, “No relief was given to the families of the martyred farmers, the Modi government did not even deem it appropriate to observe two minutes of silence in their memory in Parliament and on top of that, their character assassination is continuing.”
He said that the whole country has come to know that anti-farmer hateful mentality is present in every vein of BJP.
Following protests by farmers, the three farm laws – the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act; the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Price Assurance and Agreement on Agricultural Services Act; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act – were repealed in November 2021.
The farmers' protest began in late November 2020 and ended after Parliament repealed the three laws. These laws came into force in June 2020 and were repealed in November 2021.
