Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday (July 21) said that he will not celebrate his birthday. He said that this is not a day to celebrate, but to demand accountability from the government.

He said that the current circumstances are not one for celebration, but for demanding accountability and protecting democratic rights.
Kharge gave this information through his social media post. Expressing his gratitude to the Congress leaders, workers, supporters and citizens of the country who wished him on his birthday, he said that people’s affection is very important for him. However, he clarified that at present he will not celebrate his birthday as any celebration.
In his statement, the Congress leader targeted the central government over the alleged lathi charge and use of tear gas during the youth demonstration. He alleged that the demonstration by students and youth demanding justice and accountability was responded to with the use of force instead of dialogue.
‘Today is not a day of celebration, but a day of demanding accountability’
Mallikarjun Kharge wrote on social media platform X that this is not a time to celebrate, but an opportunity to demand accountability. He demanded strengthening of the democratic system and restoration of democratic rights. Kharge alleged that a day earlier the country witnessed scenes of lathi charge, tear gas and crackdown on peaceful democratic protests. He said that instead of listening to the voice of the students demanding justice, force was allegedly used against them.
However, the official side coming forward from the government or administration regarding the demonstration and security arrangements is also being considered important in the context of this entire controversy.
Questions raised on paper leak and future of students
The Congress President also made the issue of examination system and alleged paper leak a part of his statement. He raised the question that if the students were demanding justice against exam irregularities and paper leaks, then why was force used to protest against them. He asked who would take responsibility for the recurring incidents of paper leaks and the problems faced by lakhs of students affected by it. Kharge said that the youth of the country do not need oppression, but justice and fair opportunities.
He demanded the central government to ensure transparency and accountability in the examination system. According to the Congress President, the government should give clear answers in matters related to the future of the youth and address the concerns of the students.
Demand for immediate discussion in Parliament
Mallikarjun Kharge demanded immediate detailed discussion in Parliament on paper leak and student related issues. He said that this is not an issue of only students or any one organization, but is a matter related to the future of millions of youth of the country. Kharge also reiterated his demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He said that the Education Minister should step down, taking moral and political responsibility for the controversies and alleged irregularities related to the examination.
