Mamata Banerjee said, Central security personnel tried to search the car at the airport

Elections for the 294-member West Bengal Assembly are to be held in two phases on April 23 and 29.

Islampur. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday claimed that central forces tried to search her car while she was going to Kolkata airport during the day. Before the Chief Minister, his party Trinamool Congress had on Tuesday alleged that the Election Commission had ordered to search the vehicles of its leaders.

Banerjee, while addressing an election rally in Uttar Dinajpur district, also accused Union ministers of bringing money into the poll-bound state and misusing their positions. She said, when I was going to Kolkata airport today, central forces tried to search my car. If you dare, check my car every day.

The Trinamool Congress on Tuesday alleged that only the vehicles of its leaders, especially Abhishek Banerjee, have been singled out for intensive searching by the security personnel deployed for the West Bengal Assembly elections, based on instructions from the Election Commission. Kunal Ghosh, state general secretary of the ruling party, said, why are only his party leaders being selected for such a thorough investigation while others are being spared? This is a clear case of selective targeting.

There was no immediate reaction from the Election Commission on Trinamool’s allegations. Alleging massive misuse of central government resources, Banerjee asked whether the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has brought the entire government here to win the state elections.

He said that he is aware of what the central forces are doing in Bengal. Trinamool supremo said, Union ministers are bringing money. The Finance Minister is distributing cards. The Election Commission should take strict action. Elections for the 294-member West Bengal Assembly are to be held in two phases on April 23 and 29, while the counting of votes will take place on May 4.
